Forest of Life Formation: Pet Stat Breakdowns, Taming Mark ROI & Stage Guide
Forest of Life is the pet progression check. Hero gear, research, and charms are completely stripped. Only your Pet Level, Taming Marks, and Pet Combat Skills determine your stage push. This guide covers where to invest for maximum ROI.
The Forest of Life opens every Wednesday and Thursday. It unlocks when you obtain your first generation of Pets (around Kingdom Age ~54 days). Unlike Coliseum which is gear-gated, Forest of Life rewards players who have invested wisely in the pet system โ and punishes those who spread resources too thin.
What Stats Count (and What's Ignored)
| System | Active? | Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Pet Level | โ Yes | Higher level = stronger base stats |
| Taming Marks | โ Yes | Direct stat multipliers โ primary scaling factor |
| Pet Combat Skills | โ Yes | Auto-activate, no cooldown consumed |
| Hero Gear | โ No | Completely ignored |
| Hero Base Stats | โ No | Completely ignored |
| Governor Charms | โ No | Completely ignored |
| Academy Research | โ No | Completely ignored |
Pet skills trigger automatically in Forest of Life. You do not need to manually activate them, and using them here does not consume their cooldowns for other content.
Pet Generation Comparison
Like heroes, pets come in generations with increasing base stats. Understanding the power gap determines where to invest:
| Pet | Gen | Base ATK (Lv 40) | Base DEF (Lv 40) | Combat Skill |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lion | Gen 2 | High ATK (Gen 2) | Moderate DEF (Gen 2) | AoE burst + ATK buff |
| Cheetah | Gen 2 | Very High ATK (Gen 2) | Low DEF (glass cannon) | Speed buff + crit rate |
| Bison | Gen 1 | Low ATK (Gen 1) | High DEF (Gen 1) | Tank + damage reduction |
| Gray Wolf | Gen 1 | Moderate ATK (Gen 1) | Moderate DEF (Gen 1) | Single target damage |
| Lynx | Gen 1 | Low ATK (Gen 1) | Moderate DEF (Gen 1) | Evasion + counter |
Gen 2 pets have meaningfully higher base stats than Gen 1 at the same level. Prioritize leveling Gen 2 pets first.
Taming Mark ROI: Where to Invest
Taming Marks are the primary lever for Forest of Life progression. Each mark increases a specific pet stat multiplicatively. The ROI varies significantly by mark level:
| Mark Level | Cost (Taming Stones) | Stat Increase | ROI (Stats/Stone) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 โ 2 | Low cost | High gain per level | โ โ โ โ โ Best |
| 2 โ 3 | Moderate cost | Good gain per level | โ โ โ โ โ Great |
| 3 โ 4 | Significant cost | Moderate gain | โ โ โ โโ Good |
| 4 โ 5 | High cost | Diminishing returns | โ โ โโโ Diminishing |
| 5 โ 6+ | Very high cost | Minimal per level | โ โโโโ Whale only |
Check your in-game Pet screen for exact taming stone costs per mark level โ they increase significantly between marks.
Investment strategy: Get ALL your combat pets to Mark Level 3 before pushing any single pet to Mark Level 5+. The cost-to-stat ratio drops dramatically at higher mark levels. Breadth beats depth until mark 3.
Pet Skill Priority for Forest of Life
Not all pet skills are equal in Forest of Life. Since skills auto-activate, skills with front-loaded damage or defensive buffs outperform skills that need setup time:
| Skill Type | Forest Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| AoE Damage | โ โ โ โ โ | Hits all enemies immediately on trigger |
| ATK Buff (Team) | โ โ โ โ โ | Multiplicative with other damage sources |
| Damage Reduction | โ โ โ โ โ | Extends fight duration = more pet skill cycles |
| Single Target Nuke | โ โ โ โโ | Good for focus-fire stages, less value in AoE stages |
| Healing | โ โ โโโ | Fights are short โ healing matters less than burst |
Optimal Formation: 50-15-35
Hero positioning matters less here than in Coliseum since pet stats override hero stats. Focus on troop-type coverage so each pet skill activates for maximum targets.

Pet-Hero Pairing Optimization
While hero stats don't count directly, the hero assigned to each position determines which pet is active. Pair your strongest pets with the troop type that has the highest ratio:
| Position | Troop % | Best Pet | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infantry (50%) | Highest | Lion or Bison | Strongest pet on largest troop group = max impact |
| Archer (35%) | Second | Cheetah or Gray Wolf | DPS pet on DPS troop type for damage multiplication |
| Cavalry (15%) | Lowest | Lynx or weakest available | Lowest % gets weakest pet โ minimize waste |
Stage Progression Tips
- Use all 5 daily attempts โ pet skill RNG can swing stage outcomes significantly
- If stuck, check which pet is dying first โ upgrade that pet's taming marks
- Clear Stage 10 to unlock Raid for passive weekly Misty Crystal rewards
- Try 55/10/35 ratio if your infantry pets are substantially stronger than cavalry pets
- Forest of Life progress resets weekly โ push for your personal best each week
